Why Salad and Go Closed

The company blamed three things: sustained pressure on consumer demand, “past strategic growth challenges,” and rising costs. It added that a July cyclospora outbreak, in which Salad and Go was not implicated, weakened confidence across the whole salad category. Trade press summarised the same story more bluntly as inflation plus overexpansion.

That second point matters, and some coverage gets it wrong. One widely read summary says the chain “blamed” its bankruptcy on the outbreak. Two salads hide a surprise. The Arcadia and Roasted Autumn each carry 31 to 32 grams of sugar, mostly from fruit and candied pecans. No other salad on the menu went above 6 grams. They were also the only two with tree nuts. If you were choosing a salad to keep sugar down, the Caesar or Fajita was the better call.

Wraps

Every salad also came as a wrap, and this is where the calories jump. A wrap adds the tortilla and a full 2.5-ounce sachet of dressing, so even the lightest wrap lands at more than three times the calories of the lightest salad.

Nine of the ten wraps went over 1,900 mg of sodium. The Buffalo Chicken Wrap hit 2,850 mg, which is more than the FDA’s 2,300 mg Daily Value in a single item. If you’re watching salt, the Buffalo Chicken Salad carries 1,080 to 1,540 mg less than the wrap.

Worth flagging: a 24-ounce Fruit Stand Lemonade carried up to 83 grams of sugar, more than two and a half times the sugar in the sweetest salad. The zero-calorie cold brew and iced teas were the drinks that actually matched the “eat better” pitch.

Salad and Go Numbers That Other Menu Lists Get Wrong

The most-copied third-party Salad and Go menu understates every wrap by 170 to 320 calories and most breakfast burritos by 100 to 200, compared with the chain’s own July 2026 guide. The errors don’t all run one way, which tells you something. A list that’s consistently low might be using an older recipe. That steak line is a small example of why we don’t trust tidy price lists. Salad and Go’s own menu page said “steak (+$2.00)” in one place and “Add steak for $1.20” in another. The breakfast range is wide for the same reason: one listing has every burrito at $3.34, another has them between $4.99 and $5.99.

What About Salad and Go Gift Cards?

💡 The small print KFC actually prints

Every one of these releases carries the same line: prices are higher in Alaska, Hawaii, California and on third-party ordering websites, with tax, tip and fees extra. The app-only offers also need a KFC Rewards account, which KFC says works only on online orders at participating US restaurants.

🛡️ Why we date every deal

KFC announces these with a start date but no end date, and phrases like “while supplies last.” They’re all from 2025, so treat them as KFC’s stated value lineup, not a promise that each one is running at your store today.

One detail people miss: the July 2025 release’s fine print lists the 3-piece Tenders Fill Up without a biscuit, while the June release says it comes with one. If the biscuit matters to you, ask before you pay.

The Cheapest Way to Buy KFC Chicken, Piece by Piece

Dividing price by pieces shows a big gap. KFC’s $10 Tuesdays deal works out to $1.25 a piece. A regular 8-piece bucket, on the menu sites we checked, costs $2.44 to $2.85 a piece, roughly double. Bigger buckets don’t always get cheaper per piece, either.

💡 When a bigger bucket isn’t a better deal

On Site A, the 8, 12 and 16-piece buckets all land at about $2.44 to $2.46 a piece, with no bulk discount at all. Only Site B shows the 16-piece meaningfully cheaper per piece. Check your own store’s numbers before assuming the biggest bucket wins.

Site A is allmenus.us (dated January 2026, no method stated). Site B is USA Food Menu (November 2026, says it uses in-store prices). Site C is Fast Food Menu Prices (summer 2026, says it uses delivery-menu prices). That last detail explains a lot of the gap.

Honestly, the takeaway is simple. If you’re feeding a family on a Tuesday and you’re happy with dark meat or tenders, $10 Tuesdays beats any bucket price we found by about half. On any other day, the per-piece cost of a bucket is roughly the same whichever size you pick, so buy the size you’ll actually eat.

Here’s an odd one. On the site that lists all of them, the 50-piece nugget box works out to more per nugget ($0.70) than the 10-piece ($0.60). If that holds at your store, two 10-piece orders are better value than a big box, and you’d never guess it from the name.

KFC’s 2025 releases also brought back Potato Wedges and Hot & Spicy Wings nationwide from August 18, 2025, and added Kentucky Fried Pickles with Comeback Sauce or ranch for a limited time. All three were described as “while supplies last,” so availability varies.

Original Recipe vs Extra Crispy

Both menu-price sites that address it say Original Recipe and Extra Crispy cost the same in a bucket or meal, and KFC’s own Fill Up and Mike’s Hot Honey deals let you choose either at one price. The difference is the coating, not the cost.

Original Recipe is the chicken built on what KFC describes as Colonel Harland Sanders’ pressure-cooker method and his blend of 11 herbs and spices, perfected in 1939 and still secret. Extra Crispy is the crunchier alternative, and it’s the filet KFC uses in its chicken sandwich.

Calories are where they part ways, but we could not open KFC’s own US nutrition guide to confirm figures, because kfc.com did not respond to our requests. Several nutrition sites report an Original Recipe breast at about 390 calories and an Extra Crispy breast at about 530. Treat that as widely reported rather than verified, and check KFC’s nutrition calculator for exact numbers.

Why KFC Prices Differ So Much

Three reasons, two of which KFC confirms itself. Its releases state prices are higher in Alaska, Hawaii and California, and higher on third-party ordering websites. The third reason is that menu-price sites mix in-store and delivery figures without always saying which.

1 · Delivery apps cost more

KFC’s own fine print says so. One menu site we checked estimates delivery apps at 25 to 35 percent above in-store, and another builds its whole list from delivery prices, which is why its numbers sit at the top of every range above.

2 · Three states pay more

KFC names Alaska, Hawaii and California as higher-price states in every 2025 release we read. A national “KFC price” quoted without a state is already a rough average.

3 · Restaurants set their own prices

Both price sites we checked say prices vary by location, and one says they vary by franchise. KFC’s own deals say “prices and participation may vary.” Two stores across town can charge different amounts for the same bucket.

4 · App-only deals skew lists

Offers like 20 Wings for $20 exist only in the KFC app through KFC Rewards. Lists that mix those prices with counter prices make the menu look cheaper than walking in.

KFC Menu Numbers That Don’t Add Up

The most-copied KFC price list has several calorie figures that can’t be right, including a single biscuit listed at up to 2,160 calories and a 16-piece tenders bucket at more than twice the calories of the 12-piece. It also leaves out Extra Crispy entirely and uses one Las Vegas store’s phone number and hours as if they applied nationwide.

Across three menu-price sites, an 8-piece bucket of chicken only is listed between $19.49 and $22.79, and an 8-piece meal with sides and biscuits between $29.99 and $33.95. KFC says prices are higher in Alaska, Hawaii, California and on delivery sites.

What is KFC’s $10 Tuesday deal?

Which Bread? The Sodium Difference

The croissant has the least sodium of the four breads for every filling, and the biscuit has the most, by about 700 mg. Calories barely move between breads (the biscuit and sourdough versions tie), so sodium is the real decision.
